Course Syllabus

Ready for College

Ready for College is a year-long, 0.5 credit course with three main components:

  1. This online course, meant to educate you regarding getting into and paying for college.
  2. The lab portion, during which you come in 2 days per week and work on college and scholarship applications.
  3. The book portion, for which students will be divided into pairs and asked to read and give a presentation on a chapter of the book entitled, The Naked Roommate: And 107 Other Issues You Might Run Into in College.

The online portion works in the following way:

  • The course is divided into 13 modules.
  • One or two modules will be assigned per week.
  • In most cases, you must complete each module before you can move on to the next one.
  • The teacher must grade the assignments for each module and you must gain all points before you can move on to the next module. See your teacher with questions.
  • You will gain one point for each activity or skill, for a total of 60 points. You must complete and pass all skills and activities to move on to the lab portion.
  • You can work ahead, but all students must complete the online education portion by 11/6/2017.

This course is pass/fail. A 60 in the online portion is needed, plus the completion of the lab check sheet and the book presentation.

This course is NOT intended to be a study hall. However, once you have completed the online portion and all of the items on your lab checklist, you may work on outside work (until the book presentations portion of the class begins). You MUST attend class meeting times, however, regardless of how much ahead you are.
