CHRIS BATCHELOR

Welcome to second semester advanced PE!  I look forward to working with you this semester.  I am a graduate of East Carolina University (Go PIRATES!) where I majored in Exercise and Sports Science.  I completed my Masters degree in Sports Administration at the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama.  This is my 27th year of teaching and my 17th year serving as an athletic director.

The key to being successful in Advanced PE is to participate, dress out, and try!  If there is a medical issue going on, please make sure you talk with me so that we can adjust your assignments if needed.

ADVANCED PE SYLLABUS

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Advanced PE course is to stress physical fitness, focusing on body shaping, flexibility and muscular development of cardiovascular endurance.  Emphasis is placed on positive nutritional habits.  Learning the rules and techniques of various sports is included.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this course is to provide the student with the knowledge necessary to be a life long learner of healthy habits and sports.  The student will be exposed to a variety of workouts and sports to meet that goal.

DRESS

Each student is required to dress out everyday in different clothes than they wear the rest of the school day.  These clothes can include, but are not limited to, shorts, t-shirts, sweat pants and hoodies.  They are NOT to include cut-offs, leggings that are not covered or light colored volleyball shorts.  Students must also wear appropriate footwear.  Slides, sandals, Sperry’s, slip ons, boots or any hard soled shoe etc…is NOT appropriate.

ATTENDANCE

Attendance will be taken at the beginning of every period.  Students who are not in the appropriate and assigned area at the time of role, will be marked absent or tardy.  Attendance and tardies will be given according to school policies (refer to student handbook).  For all absences after 3 (both excused and unexcused) students will be given zero grade.  Those grades can be made up at the discretion of the instructor by completing a daily make-up assignment.  Extended absences or injuries will require a long term alternative assignment.

GRADE

The student’s grade will consist of a 10 point daily grade.  This grade will be based on dress out, warm up and participation.  Students will be given the opportunity to make-up half credit on days in which they do not dress out.  Failure to dress out will result in a zero grade for the day.  See attendenace/Tardies section for clarification

GRADING RUBRIC

60%= Daily Dress Out/Attitude during class/Being in the right location/Doing the right thing

20%=Fitness Test/Pacer/Mile run/Push ups, Sit ups/Shuttle run

20%=Effort in warm-ups/Effort in daily activity

SCHEDULE

This class will combine physical fitness testing with an assortment of individual and team sports.  The class will be outside for the majority of the second half of class (weather permitting)

INJURIES/ILLNESS

Only a doctor’s note will be accepted for a student to be present but not complete the assigned workout.  The instructor will also accept excuses from the school athletic trainer and nurse.  Parent notes will NOT be accepted.

LOCKERS

With the strain of a growing student body, locker space is at a premium.  We ask that students who are not currently on an athletic team, do not permanently take a locker.  Instead, bring a lock for the duration of class.

In addition to their own personal lock, the PE department policy is to lock the locker room for the duration of the class period as an added measure of security.

If the student has valuables that are unable to lock up, the PE department can provide a safe place in the coach’s office on a case by case basis.
