4 Spelling Unit 4: ou and oi

STRATEGY: A vowel sound that is not a long vowel sound or a short vowel sound is a "blended" sound.   Read this sentence to yourself: I found a mouse on the ground in the round house.

found, mouse, ground, round, and house all have the "ou" blended sound,

Now read this riddle to yourself:  I can burn to make water boil.  I am found under the soil.  Can you guess?  I am oil.

boil, soil, oil all rhyme and have the "oi" blended sound.

1)  Pick up your Spelling Journal

2) Label the next blank page as Unit 4: ou, oi

3) Copy all 23 words into your spelling journal

4) Pick Up your flash cards (Remember to seperate Basic, Review, and Challenge)

3)Sort your BASIC cards into 2 stacks (one for oi sound and one for ou sound)

4) Using the cards you sorted, complete the "quiz"
