Objective: To research a topic relevant to your Culture & Identity
Requirements: In this major assignment, you will practice the skill of writing an informative research paper & preparing a 2-4 minute presentation related to your research.
You will research a topic relative to your culture, identity, or a culture / identity that you would like to learn more about at home and at school.
Once you have completed your research, you will organize your ideas and practice your public speaking skills by preparing a class presentation on your research.
Remember, learning to research and present well is hard work!
To do this assignment, you will need to complete the following steps:
*Use your Culture and Identity Gram + a Funnel Sheet to help you come up with a Cultural and or Identity Topic
Directions: Part I
1. Decide on a topic to research, and then find a minimum of two (2) sources
a. You must have one academic journal or article & one book
2. Use these steps to create an Informative Research Paper
a. Create an Annotated Bibliography (30 points)
b. Create a Thesis Statement (5 points)
c. Write an Introduction Paragraph
d. Write Body Paragraph #1
e. Write Body Paragraph #2
f. Write Body Paragraph # 3
g. Write a Conclusion Paragraph
h. Create an Outline Draft of your entire paper (10 points)
i. Create a Rough Draft of you entire paper (10 points)
j. Participate in Peer Editing Workshop (10 points)
k. Correct your Rough Draft
l. Type a Final Draft of your entire paper (200 points)
m. Present your topic to the class in a 2-4 minute presentation
Directions Part II: Prepare a 2-4 Minute Presentation
- Organize your notes and identify the critical pieces that must be in your presentation.
- Brainstorm a creative way to present your information. Video, Slideshow, Prezi, etc.
- Practice your presentation (time yourself!). Record your presentation.
- Submit your 2-4 minute presentation in the Canvas assignment “Research Presentation”
